An appellate court has upheld the convictions of two men accused of beheading one child and nearly decapitating two others in 2004.
Maryland's Court of Special Appeals ruled in favor of the state on several issues related to the trial of Adan Espinoza Canela and Policarpio Espinoza Perez. A Baltimore jury found the men guilty in the deaths of Ricardo Solis Quezada Jr. and Lucero Solis Quezada, both 9, and their cousin, Alexis Espejo Quezada, 10.
As a result of the ruling, the sentences of Canela and Perez remain unchanged: consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 30 years in prison.
