ENTIRE STATE UNDER AIR QUALITY ALERT TODAY ...
Monday July 5th 2010 11:23 AM

Monday, July 05, 2010 - Steve Fermier

THE MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENT HAS ISSUED A CODE RED AIR QUALITY ALERT MONDAY FOR THE BALTIMORE METRO AREA.

A CODE RED AIR QUALITY ALERT MEANS THAT AIR POLLUTION CONCENTRATIONS WITHIN THE REGION ARE UNHEALTHFUL FOR THE GENERAL POPULATION. THE EFFECTS OF AIR POLLUTION CAN BE MINIMIZED BY AVOIDING STRENUOUS ACTIVITY OR EXERCISE OUTDOORS.

A Code Orange is in effect for western Maryland, which means that air might be unhealthful for groups that are especially vulnerable.

The heat will seem to be oppressive, with a high near 100 and humidity on the increase. The Heat Index will be well above 100.

The record for this date is 102 set in 1999.

Water is in abundant supply for area reservoirs. The DPW indicated last week that the levels stood at 98 percent.
