Brother Alan Blacklock
The Lodge regrets to announce the death of Brother Alan Blacklock #1138 on September 5th, 2025 at the age of 85.
Alan Blacklock was born on July 18, 1940, in Baltimore, Maryland. After graduating from Randolph-Macon Academy in 1959, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Suffolk County Air Force Base in Westhampton, New York. While in New York, he met his lifelong partner and wife, Rosalie, and they were married on February 24, 1962. Alan served four years in the Air Force as a crew chief and jet engine mechanic, performing highly technical tasks on F-101 Voodoo fighter jets and overseeing their readiness. Shortly after, Alan continued his public service with the Baltimore County Police Department, joining on October 5, 1964.
After graduating from the police academy, he was assigned to Patrol in both the Towson and Woodlawn precincts for five years before finding his niche in the K9 Unit on April 5, 1969. Loyal to his band of brothers, he never sought a promotion and proudly served as K9 Officer Bomb Dog Handler for the next 17 years until his retirement on January 1, 1986. Officer Blacklock was the man you could count on—not just for backup and support, but as a steadfast friend.
Al and Rosalie would move to Culpepper, Virginia, and later to Madison County, Virginia, where he built his forever home. During this time, Alan came out of retirement to drive milk trucks for Inskeep B.S. Athey Milk Transportation, picking up milk from local dairy farms and transporting it to dairies across Virginia and Maryland for the next 25 years. He enjoyed driving trucks and visiting local farmers, with The Inskeep Farm at Cedar Mountain being his favorite place to spend time.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rosalie; his two children; grandchildren; brother; and nieces and nephews, who remember him with love and admiration.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Etlan Cemetery in Sperryville, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Alan’s memory to Cedar Mountain Youths, Inc. (CMYI), ATTN: Treasurer, 111 Morningside Drive, Culpepper, VA 22701.
The Lodge extends its condolences to the Blacklock family.
