Brother George D. Watts
The Lodge regrets to announce the death of retired Captain George D. Watts on July 10, 2025.
George D. Watts was born on April 22, 1938, in Baltimore, Maryland. A natural-born leader and devoted public servant, George began his career with the Baltimore County Police Department on May 16, 1960, at the age of 22. Over the next 35 years, he served his community with pride, compassion, and loyalty—advancing through the ranks and making a lasting impact in every assignment, with every colleague, and in every community he served.
Upon graduating from the Academy, George was assigned to Western Traffic, where he served for seven years before transferring to Communications in March 1967. On June 19, 1971, he was promoted to Corporal and assigned to the Wilkens Precinct, where his leadership and mentorship quickly earned the respect and admiration of his peers. In July 1973, he was promoted to Sergeant and transferred to the Intelligence Unit.
George’s rise through the ranks continued when he was promoted to Lieutenant on February 7, 1976. He briefly returned to Precinct 1 Wilkens before transferring that November to the Training Section, where he was instrumental in shaping the values and skills of new recruits. His leadership was again recognized on November 21, 1980, when he was promoted to Captain and appointed Field Operations Staff Commander. In August 1981, he transferred to Special Operations for a year, followed by an assignment to Precinct 3 (Garrison) in March 1982.
On October 3, 1988, Captain Watts joined the Office of the Chief, where he remained until his retirement on July 1, 1995, serving under the late retired Chief Cornelius Behan and retired Chief Michael Gambrill.
After 35 years of distinguished service, Captain Watts left behind a legacy defined by dedication, integrity, and a deep commitment to the Baltimore County community. Known as a role model in every sense, he approached each rank and assignment with genuine care, humility, and compassion. Those who had the privilege of working with him often walked away having learned something new—not just about policing, but about respect and humanity.
Immediately following retirement, George and his beloved wife of 62 years, Patricia, moved to Florida, where they enjoyed the warm sun, salty air, and traveling together. George cherished time with close friends, and as a proud member of the BCoPD Sunshine Club, he and fellow retired officers gathered each year to reminisce and share in lasting camaraderie.
George leaves behind his cherished wife, two children, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, who will forever treasure his love and wisdom.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Baltimore National Cemetery, 5501 Frederick Rd., Catonsville, MD 21228. All are welcome.
The Lodge extends it deepest sympathies to the Watts Family.
