43-year-old Dundalk resident identified as man fatally shot by police

The attorney general’s office on Tuesday identified the man fatally shot by Baltimore County Police Sunday night in Dundalk and the officer who was involved in the incident.

Glenn Pettie Jr., 43, of Dundalk, died in what law enforcement has previously described as an armed confrontation with police officer Michael Brady, a four-year veteran of the department assigned to the Operations Bureau, the Independent Investigations Division said in a news release.

The IID, which is tasked with examining fatal police encounters or those with injuries that might result in death, said the investigation into the circumstances of the shooting is ongoing.

Citing a preliminary investigation, IID said Monday that two Baltimore County police officers responded to a call related to a mental health crisis on the 8200 block of North Boundary Road in Dundalk at around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

While one officer was at the home’s front door, another officer went into the alley behind the residence, where a man, now identified as Pettie, fired on the officer, the IID said in the release Monday.

Pettie was wounded during a firefight between him and the officer, according to IID. Police recovered a loaded handgun from the scene, authorities said.

Medics transported Pettie to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. No officers were injured, police said.

The Baltimore County police officers were equipped with body-worn cameras. The attorney general’s office typically releases body-worn camera footage within 20 business days, according to authorities.
