Shawn Richard Borgealt, born on February 26, 1971, in Baltimore City, Maryland, passed away on March 26, 2026, in Conway, South Carolina. Shawn lived a life defined by honor, service, strength, craftmanship and creativity, and a deep devotion to his family.
After graduating from North Carroll High School in Hampstead, Maryland in 1989, Shawn proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. During his time in the USMC, Shawn served with distinction as an RTO Lineman and Marine Security Guard and was deployed to Iraq during Operation Desert Storm, as well as to other locations including Germany, Tunisia and Okinawa Japan. Shawn was honorably discharged from the USMC in 1996.
Following his military service, Shawn continued his dedication to protecting and serving others. He worked as a Correctional Officer at Stafford Correctional Institute in Virginia and later joined the Baltimore County Police Department, where he served with pride from 1998 until his retirement in 2019. Throughout his professional life, Shawn was known for his integrity, reliability and strong work ethic, and he took great pride in serving his community, his country and the people he loved.
Shawn was an outstanding father to his daughter, Carol Anne, who was the center of his world and his greatest source of pride and joy. He was beyond excited to become a dad and cherished every adventure and moment they spent together. He fully embraced his role as a proud “horse girl dad” and found great joy in being actively involved in every aspect of her life, a legacy of love that will live on through her in the values he taught, the strength he showed and in his quiet example of integrity. Shawn also loved spending time with his father as they shared a common interest in riding, restoring and rebuilding Harley-Davidson motorcycles and cars. Shawn treasured these and countless other moments spent with his father throughout the years.
Beyond family, Shawn loved boating and fishing, especially at Taylors Island, he was a devoted fan of the Washington Commanders, and he had a particular fascination with birds of prey. In addition, Shawn was a gifted artist with a special talent for painting landscapes. These interests reflected his creativity, ingenuity, mechanical skills and especially his love for spending time with family and friends.
Shawn is survived by his beloved daughter, Carol Anne Borgealt; Kari Borgealt, his father, Brian Joseph Borgealt; his father’s fiancée, Debbie Weishaar; his sibling, Troy Jacobs and numerous other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bette Jean (Fischbach) Borgealt, Kirk Chambers; his sister, Lori (Jacobs) White; his paternal grandparents, Joseph and Mildred Borgealt and his maternal grandparents, Doris Jean and Oregon Fischbach.
Shawn will be remembered for his honorable service, his craftsmanship and creative spirit, his passion for motorcycles and life on the water, and most of all for his fierce, unconditional love for his daughter, father and other family members. Shawn’s strength, integrity, and quiet dedication left an enduring impression on all who knew him. His presence will be deeply missed, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. A memorial service honoring the life of Shawn Borgealt will take place in Maryland at a later date and time.

If we’re able to learn the date for his memorial service, we’ll advise of that as soon as possible.
