Brother Roy E. Nichols
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Roy Edward Nichols, a retired police sergeant of the Baltimore County Police Department, who passed away on March 27, 2025, at the age of 77.
Roy was born on January 31, 1948, in Baltimore, MD to Ray E. Nichols Sr. and Doris Nichols. He graduated from Sparrows Point High School in 1966. He dedicated the majority of his adult life to serving the Baltimore County community. He joined the Baltimore County Polic Department as a Police Cadet in 1967. During his time as a police officer, he worked out of the Dundalk Precinct (12) and the Edgemere Precinct (13), which were later combined into the North Point Precinct (12). He served as a patrol officer, A patrol sergeant, a TAC officer, and a Detective. He retired from The Baltimore County Police Department in 1997 as a Detective Sergeant. After his retirement he worked several jobs, only to realize that his passion was serving the public. So, he decided to become a Bailiff for the District Court of Maryland for Baltimore County at the Towson and Essex courthouses, where he remained for 22 years. Roy served his community with distinction, earning the respect of his colleagues and the community.
During his free time Roy continued to live a full and active life. He enjoyed going on cruises and traveling. He was an avid Baltimore Ravens fan, holding season tickets and attending home games with his son. Many Saturday nights he spent playing cards with friends. But mostly he loved spending time with his family. He would make every effort to attend his granddaughters’ events, from dance competitions to tennis matches, to cheerleading competitions, to concerts and musicals.
In addition to his beloved wife of 55 years, Ilona Maria Nichols, survivors include: two loving children (Paul E. Nichlos and his wife Michele L. Nichols of Glen Burnie, Md) and (Linda M. Schiavone and her husband Bryan F. Schiavone of Loganville, PA); three cherished granddaughters (Emily L. Nichols, Brooke N. Schiavone, and Katherine R. Schiavone); a brother ( Ray E. Nichols jr.); and many nieces and nephews.
Per Roy’s wishes, services will be private for the immediate family only.
